CAST®-COMBI is the combination of Flow-CAST® Basophil Activation
Test and CAST® Leukotriene ELISA. The combination of
Flow-CAST® Basophil Activation Test and CAST® Leukotriene
ELISA leads to higher sensitivity with optimal
specificity. Particularly in drug allergies, the combined
application of these two special allergy assays has demonstrated a
remarkable increase in the sensitivity with same specificity known
for both assays. The reason for this increase could be that
different intra- and/or extracellular mechanisms can lead to
similar symptoms in drug allergies, food allergies, and other
allergic reactions.
Both tests employ methods and technology already used in most
laboratories and hence do not typically require the acquisition of
new equipment or techniques. The CAST®-COMBI is a convenient
technique to obtain very unique results because both tests can be
run from the same sample, using the same allergens and stimulation
methods. The fact that the tests can be performed on 24-hour old
blood samples also enables performance of the tests in many
different logistical environments.
